How To Enhance Your Presentation Delivery With Ease

June 06, 20193 min read

“There are always three speeches, for every one you actually gave. The one you practised, the one you gave, and the one you wish you gave.” – Dale Carnegie

Indeed! Every presenter wishes to deliver a great presentation but only a few of them succeed. Effective business presentation skills are quintessential to kick off the enthusiasm in your audience and bring them out of their wandering thoughts, sleepiness, and boredom. Whether you are trying to pitch your services to potential clients, discussing your business plan to a potential business partner, or promoting your business at a large event, excellent presentation skills can be a powerful tool to attract and engage the audience.

Regardless of how well you prepare a speech or PowerPoint presentation slides, your way of delivery can change the game. Let us discuss six ways to improve your presentation delivery.

1. Be Precise

A study carried out in Canada, by technology giant Microsoft, suggested that the attention span has now plummeted to 8 seconds from 12 seconds in 2000. So, better be brief while delivering a presentation rather than meandering from one folklore to another to explain your point. Prepare a strong narrative with important facts and figures to increase audience engagement.

2. Speak The Audience Language

Doing demographic study and matching the semantics of your audience can be very helpful. For instance, if you are going to sell snowboards, your semantics is going to be a lot different than if you’re going to present a financial plan and layout for investors. Match the semantics as close as possible thus you are able to speak the language of your audience.

3. Develop your voice

According to the concepts of Evolutionary Psychology, people respond better to deep male voices and high female voices. Though it takes a lot of practice, it is something that you can achieve with time.

4. Use Constructive Words

Don’t think about monkeys. What did you imagine? Now, you get why it is important to avoid such phrases. Instead, you should tell your audience what they could do. In the same way, also avoid saying things like “I hope you will enjoy this presentation”. Rather, say “I am confident that you will enjoy this presentation”.

5. Groom Your Body Language

Keep a comfortable distance from your audience. Distance between 2.5 and 7 feet is deemed to be suitable when it comes to presentation. Rather than surfing the audience with your eyes, make eye contact with one person at a time. Make yourself appear confident by taking care of certain things such as:

  • Shoulders back

  • Hands open or slight closed

  • Smile slightly enough to make the audience more comfortable

6. Ask Questions

Asking questions from the audience is a great way to keep them engaged. When the audience is questioned, people tend to pay more attention. This can be as simple as taking a pause to ask if the audience understands what you are explaining.

On a final note, more than 30 million presentations are created every day. You need to know what a good PowerPoint slides or presentation decks look like. Therefore include compelling and meaningful images in them. As discovered by Prezi 33% of people believe that visual stimulation is critical in maintaining their engagement.  Limit your sentences per slide rather than writing out blocks of paragraphs. The slides need to be relevant to keep people stick to what you want them to see.

Keep all these tips in mind while delivering your presentation. To become a great presenter, start cultivating effective business presentation skills right away.
